Random Freighter Names in Star Wars: The RPG

Ever wrack your brains for hours trying to christen a tramp freighter for a Star Wars game, and still not come up with a name as good as the Millennium Falcon? I did, until I realized the zen of freighter naming: the good "starwars-ish" names only sound like they make sense. If you think about, Millennium Falcon doesn’t mean anything. From that small revelation (which normal people probably had back in 1977), it was only a small step to randomizing freighter names with a table. As all old gamemasters know, you can fix any gaming problem with a good random table.

To use the Random Freighter Names Table, roll 2D6 and read the results as "mock percentile dice". (For example, two ones means “eleven”, not “two”. Two sixes means “sixty-six”, not “twelve”. Get it? Good.) Roll once to get a word from column 1, and roll again to get a word from column 2. Put them together, you’ve got a freighter name.

You’ve got over a thousand possible results for this table, so it should last you a while, but if it doesn’t, you should be able to follow my lead and create your own replacement. The trick is to use astronomical or new-agey words in the first column, while filling the second column with nouns that somehow imply movement. Sounds simple once it’s explained, doesn’t it?
